"Berkeley Liberal Jew" SF cop makes racist homophobic video

I understand some of what drives cops to make fun of the stuff they see, the people and situations they have to deal with that no one else can even imagine.
Heinous stuff. Homicidal maniacs, people cussing them out when they try to help them. People crazed on drugs, full of their own shit and piss, screaming verbal abuse and vulgarities.
Cops have the only job I can think of that's actually worse than mine. I work in SFGH's Psychiatric Emergency Room and we see this stuff right after the cops do. Homeless crack heads crazed after days of smoking it, full of their own shit and filth, telling me my "pussy stinks" as I restrain them with the help of these cops so I can give them an injection to bring them back down to earth long enough to get them into the shower. People so crazed on stimulants that they haven't eaten in days or maybe weeks, then when they come down off this stuff, they demand food. Demand it constantly then complain when we give them something they don't like. Or throw it at us. Or throw urinals full of piss at us.
There are times when it takes days to get the smell out of your clothes after a particularly heinous shift
No one would ever understand the need to use the release valve of humor in jobs like these; most would be highly offended by jokes we make as nurses on the job. Cops do it too.
It's indefensible so we keep it to ourselves.
But to say that these cops on the infamous videos now released to the public were"meditating" when they're making fun of the Chinese who do Tai Chi early in the morning is just plain idiotic and makes the producer of these videos look even worse.
Or for the Chief to say he had no knowledge of being taped while simulating oral sex is just transparent backpedaling. "Taken out of context" he says. The defense is almost as bad as the videos themselves.
Cops used to have to have a college degree to be a cop. Now I think it's a six week course, something like that.
The educational requirements have been relaxed so more people will become cops and do a job that most would find repulsive, the end result being the dumbing down of the people who become cops to "protect and serve".
Even better educated cops would not solve the problem as there are a lot of cops (and nurses) who are racist homophobes with college degrees.
The people who do these jobs come from the teeming masses of of the public, and we have a problem with race, sexism and homophobia in the general population.
The problem is far more entrenched than anything a college degree would solve, far more primitive in the body politik, having settled into the Limbic systems of our neocortexes.
We are far more polarized as a country and as a species than even the most valiant efforts made by one who struggles with these issues could even begin to eradicate.
In a country built with slave labor, it's prior inhabitants massacred; with the Voting Rights Act set to expire even now; a beloved City wiped off the face of the map due to racist neglect:http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/121105Z.shtml, it's inhabitants now a diaspora and forbidden from returning; Death Rows across the nation filled with poor, dark people who couldn't afford a decent defense, our race relations will take many generations to reverse, and that's only if we do a 180 turn right now.
